Nimble Hill Wine Pairings with Thanksgiving Dinner Suggested by our Winemaker

Knowing what wine to pair with at a traditional Thanksgiving dinner can be challenging.  The meal itself will have many different side dishes, full of different flavors, ranging from salty, sweet and savory. This can make choosing the perfect wine for Thanksgiving very complicated. There are several different wines that Nimble Hill Vineyard and Winery produce that will help simplify your choices.

If you like small amount of turkey but with a lot of sides, I would suggest one of our white wines, either 2015 Dry Riesling or 2016 Riesling. The crisp acidity in our Rieslings would pair well with the turkey, dressing and anything rich and savory. If using different wines for different course, another white wine to mention would be 2015 Nimble Hill Gruner Veltliner. Our Gruner has bright acidity and citrus accents to pair well with beginner course like salads, or anything green, like asparagus or roasted brussel sprouts.

If you’re like me, and like a lot of turkey with a small amount of side dishes, then a light dry red would be a perfect complement for your Thanksgiving meal. Particularly, 2016 Nimble Hill Cabernet Franc, Cab Franc is lighter in body then its sisters Cabernet Sauvignon or Merlot, our Cab Franc has the perfect structure of tannins and body with aromas of cranberry to perfectly compliment your turkey meal.

If you are unsure of your guests preferences, then the middle of the road is the road to take. I would suggest Nimble Hill 2016 Dry Rose of Cab Franc. It has enough acidity to pair well with the savory side dishes and, also enough floral and berry notes to accompaniment the lighter sides.

Unsure to serve with dessert, Then Nimble Hill has 3 dessert wines for you to choose. If you are having traditional Thanksgiving desserts like apple, pumpkin or pecan pie, then I suggest 2016 Nimble Chill. This wine has a lot of honey and apricot notes. If going the nontraditional route, like cheesecake, then 2015 Late Harvest Frontenac Gris would be perfect pairing with its tropical fruit aromas. If serving chocolate desserts, then our 2013 Mountain Magic port-style wine would be perfect end to a perfect meal.

These are all suggestions, but any wine you enjoy will make any dinner experience that much better. How does it go?.... The best wine is the wine you share with family and friends.  To everyone, Have a Safe and Memorable Thanksgiving.
